Turning 41 this year is the multi-talented actor,
choreographer and director,
Prabhu Deva. BollyCurry takes pleasure in
taking you through his spectacular journey thus far.
Born on 3rd April 1973 to Kannada parents in Mysore,
India, Prabhudeva Sundaram began his career in the Tamil film industry
as a junior artist for the song "Rajathi Raja" in Agni Nathchathiram (1988).
Deva's inital dancing inspiration stemmed from his father Mugur
Sundar, a well-known choreographer in the South. It was not until Vetri Viza (1989)
when Deva received his first break as a choreographer. Thereafter,
there was no looking back and today Deva has successfully choreographed
songs for over 100 movies.
With time, Deva decided to expand his skills and desired to feature as an actor. In 1994, he made an appearance in the film Indu co-starring Roja. The dance maestro saw immense success as a choreographer cum actor in the Tamil industry when his movie, Minsara Kanavu (1997), received a National Award and went on to be dubbed into Hindi as Sapnay in the same year.
The new millennium added more feathers to Deva's cap as he received his ticket to Bollywood via
Pukar (2000),
a movie in which he grooved to the song "Kay Sera Sera" alongside
Madhuri Dixit Nene. 2009 marked Deva's official entry into Bollywood as a
director.
Wanted became a blockbuster hit and thereafter Deva directed various other ventures including
Rowdy Rathore (2012),
Ramaiya Vastavaiyya (2013),
R... Rajkumar (2013) and the most recent one being
Action Jackson (2014) starring Ajay Devgn.
Deva returned to acting when he starred as the lead role in Remo D'Souza's directorial,
ABCD: Anybody Can Dance in the year 2013. The movie was well received by critics and audience alike, and its sequel,
ABCD: Anybody Can Dance 2, starring
himself,
Varun Dhawan and
Shraddha Kapoor is in the post production
phase, ready to the hit theatres on June 19th, 2015. The movie is marked
as the first Bollywood film in which Deva will be seen playing a
negative character. If not anything else, it will definitely serve as a
treat to his fans. Another movie scheduled for a 2015 release is his own
directorial,
Singh Is Bling starring
Akshay Kumar,
Lara Dutta and
Amy Jackson.
Known for his intense passion of dancing, Deva's recipe to a super
hit movie is to shake a leg in one of the songs alongside the leads. Be
it "Jalwa" alongside
Salman Khan, "Chinta Chinta" with
Akshay Kumar or
"Gandi Baat" beside
Shahid Kapoor, Deva's personal touch is a sure
method to make the songs go viral. On the occasion of his birthday, we
have compiled a few numbers from his Bollywood stints for your
entertainment.
While you tune into these songs and watch his
exclusive moves and grooves, here's BollyCurry signing off, but not
before extending our warm wishes to Prabhu Deva with the hope he
continues to shine bright in Bollywood and Tollywood.
