Happy Birthday Prabhu Deva!

Today marks the birthday of a dancing icon and one of the trendsetters in the dancing, acting, and directing field of Indian cinema. Yes! It's none other than Prabhu Deva! BollyCurry, along with fans, celebrates the birthday of this multi-talented personality.

Born on 3rd April 1973 to Kannada parents as Prabhudheva Sundaram, he is now better known as just Prabhu Deva. Deva gained inspiration from his father Mugur Sundar, who was a well known choreographer for South Indian movies. He took up dancing at a young age, learning Indian classical dance forms, such as Bharatanatyam, and Western styles. He has two brothers, Raju Sundaram and Nagendra Prasad, who are also choreographers. Deva married Ramlath a.k.a Latha and has three sons. His elder son died due to cancer. He divorced Latha and began to date Nayantara, though this relationship did not last long.

Deva started his career as a background dancer in Tamil movie Agni Natchatiram (1988) and his career as a choreographer with Tamil movie Vetri Vizha (1989). From then on, he has choreographed for over 100 movies. He began his acting career soon after his choreographing career took off, first appearing in Tamil movie Indhu (1994) after several special appearances in songs. His acting career has been a huge success as well. Many of his movies were dubbed into Hindi including National Award winning Tamil movie Minsara Kanavu (1997) dubbed as Sapnay (1997). In 2000, Deva had his first foray into the Hindi film industry when he performed with Madhuri Dixit for Pukar(2000) on the song "Kay Sera Sera".

After a few more special appearances in Bollywood, Deva began directing Hindi movies. All his Hindi movies up to now have been moderate to huge successes, such as Wanted (2009), Rowdy Rathore (2012), Ramaiya Vastavaiya (2013) and R... Rajkumar (2013). More importantly, he always makes an appearance in one of the songs of his movies to shake a leg with the leads, such as in "Jalwa" from Wanted (2009) with Salman Khan or "Chinta Ta Chita Chita" from Rowdy Rathore (2012). His next venture Action Jackson, starring Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha, is all set to release late this year. Deva has also played the lead role in ABCD - Any Body Can Dance (2013), which was one of 2013's greatest hits.
