January 28
th marks the birth date of an
Indian actress, singer and music composer who started her career as a
child singer and with time, later forayed into Bollywood's movie. Yes,
we're talking of none other than our very own
Shruti Haasan.
Born
in the year 1986 as Shruti Rajalakshmi Haasan,
Shruti Haasan is the
daughter of two famous actors,
Kamal Haasan and Sharika Thakur. Hassan
completed her initial schooling in Chennai and then moved to Mumbai to
study Psychology. She then learned music at the Musician's Institute in
California and soon found herself developing an interest in cinema and
music.
Hassan debuted as a child actress in the Tamil movie
Anjali (1990) but was more recognized in a cameo appearance in her father's directional Tamil-Hindi film,
Hey Ram (2000). Her debut as a female lead came in the multi-starrer
Luck (2009)
opposite
Imran Khan in which she played a dual role. Unfortunately, the film did
not do well at the box office and neither was her performance
appreciated by the critics. She then appeared and promoted a few music videos including
Hisss where she also sung a song.
Hassan debuted in the Telugu film industry in January 2011 as a gypsy woman in
Anaganaga O Dheerudu.
The film opened with positive reviews and her performance was well
praised but the film itself did not manage to make much business at the
box office. Her second Hindi film,
Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji (2011),
did better commercially but her performance yet again failed to impress.
Hassan was then seen in several Telugu and Tamil films such as
7aum Arivu (2011),
Oh My Friend (2011),
3 (2012),
Gabbar Singh (remake of the Hindi Blockbuster
Dabangg - 2012) and
Balupu (2013). Her third and fourth Hindi films,
Ramaiyya Vastavaiya and
D-Day, were both appreciated at the box office, though they did not raise Hassan's profile by much.
2014 will see a lot more of Hassan in the upcoming Telugu flicks
Yevadu and
Race Gurram as well the Bollywood sequel
Welcome Back and the Akshay Kumar starrer
Gabbar.
Hassan
is well known to be an amazing singer and has sung few songs in
Bollywood too. So to celebrate her career thus far, here is a
mini-playlist of some of her memorable hits:
"Jago Gori" - Chachi 420
"Allah Jaane" - Eenadu
"Jeene Laga Hoon" - Ramaiyya Vastavaiya
"Rang Jo Lagyo" - Ramaiyya Vastavaiya
