Turning

Born in Andhra Pradesh to Prakash Rao Janumala and Karunamma Janumala,
Lever was brought up in Mumbai's King Circle Area, Dharavi. While his
mother tongue is Telugu, he spent much of his career in Bollywood. Due
to financial problems, he stopped studying after seventh grade and soon
developed a passion for mimicry and stand-up comedy. He started
performing in music shows and partook in many world tours with the
legendary Kalyanji-Anandji, even once joining Amitabh Bachchan in 1982
in one of his first big tours. Sunil Dutt noticed him during one of his
shows and offered him his debut movie, Dard Ka Rishta. From here
there was no turning back. Lever slowly made his way into Bollywood and
has been titled as the King of Comedy. He won the 1997 Star Screen Award
for Best Comedian for Raja Hindustani, the 1998 Filmfare Best Comedian Award for Deewana Mastana, the 1999 Filmfare Best Comedian Award for Dulhe Raja and the 2002 Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role for Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega.
