Despite its crowded local trains, heavy rains, power cuts, slums,
water crisis and traffic snarls, Mumbai manages to enthrall one and
all. The latest to fall for its charm is renowned film-maker Rituparno
Ghosh, who is shooting a short film on the city. It's Rituparno's first
attempt at short documentaries and he reportedly took on the project
simply to savour the "thrill" of shooting on the streets of the city.
The film, tentatively titled "Mangal Moorty", is part of a docu series produced by Niyati Shah and Samrat Sengupta. Directors Anurag Kashyap, Revathy, Aziz Mirza, Kundan Shah, Saket Chowdhary, Manish Jha and Sudhir Mishra are also contributing short films to the series.
Back in Kolkata, Rituparno is in the post-production stage of
"Sunglass", based on extra-marital affairs and starring Madhavan, Raima
Sen and Konkona Sen Sharma. He hopes to wrap it up in a few months. But
once "Sunglass" is released, it seems the film-maker might seriously
consider making a full-fledged film in Mumbai. He is already in love
with the city.
