Gurgaon, Nov 3 (IANS) Using double meaning words in the name of laughter shows on TV channels is not healthy as they do not contribute much to the society, says satirist Surender Sharma.

The objective of entertaining should not only be to entertain but to attack social evils like female foeticide and dowry system, said Sharma.

Sharma, vice chairman of the Haryana Sahitya Academy, was here Friday to oversee the preparation of Hasya Kavi Sammelan to be held here Monday.

Sharma said laughter shows must be clean. Sometimes, they are so vulgar that members of a family cannot together watch the shows, he said.

The Sammelan will be organized in memory of the late Om Prakash Aditya, jointly by the district administration and the Haryana Sahitya Academy.

Sharma said the late Om Prakash, who hailed from Pataudi, was a great poet and through his satire in poetic verse he attacked social evils and political discrepancies.

He said poets such as Arun Jaimini, Mahender Ajnabi, Yusuf Bhardwaj, Vinay Vishwas, Ved Prakash Vaid, Sita Sagar, Ritu Goyal and Chirag Jain would recite their poetry at the convention.
