Vibrant colours, cutworks dominate Nachiket's WIFW show

New Delhi, Oct 8 (IANS) From flamingo, melon, paprika to ochre, mimosa green and lilac, Nachiket Barve's collection at the WIFW Monday mixed abstract designs and bright colour palettes. The designer says that Indians are known for their fascination towards bright hues and should flaunt them.

"Colours can make anyone happy and as an Indian, if we are proud of colours then we should flaunt it. There is no need to follow the western trend... for example if the Paris Fashion Week is saying that a specific hue is in trend, it never means we should also do the same. I think all the girls look beautiful in bright shades, so flaunt it," Barve told IANS.

His "Hacienda" collection, showcased at the ongoing spring summer edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) here, was inspired by the colours and aesthetics of the Spanish-influenced exotic houses and estates of South America, as well as the local textile, flora and fauna.

The garments were a mix of skirts with pleats, peplums, shorts, trousers - both slim and palazzos, multi-panelled jackets, pencil skirts, Bermuda shorts and saris, of course.

The palette had an amalgam of colours like apricot, green, lilac, lotus pink, mustard, maroon along with touch of black, gold and bronze.

The fabrics used were chiffon, georgette, crepe, silk, organza, net, khadi, chanderi and cotton.

"The philosophy of my label is to make clothes that continue to stay timeless and becomes the object of desire. I'm sure that my collection this time will attract both women of India and abroad," said Barve.

Talking about the most challenging thing for him while making this collection, he said: "Right now the biggest challenge in fashion is to be unique in terms of style and patterns. Today, dresses are copied by mass market brand, then why would anybody buy from designer outlet. This is the reason why I tried to use colours that are not seen before to make it exclusive."

Music also played a big role in his show with sounds of birds chirping in the background adding volume to his theme.

"Music is something which lifts the mood and i think it's little tough to choose music for the show but once people admire it, it became a paisa vassol job," he said.
