'Pratha' is a hard hitting film against religious superstition. Irfan Khan plays a fake pujari in a temple. Deepak Bandhu is a village boy married to Ashney Shroff. The chaudhari of the village has his evil eye on Ashney. He tries to rape her who runs to the temple and threatens the chaudhary with devi's trishul. Irfan declares Ashney to be the incarnation of devi. Irfan, chaudhary and the MP seek this as an opportunity to make money and make the village a pilgirmage. How Deepak fights the gang is told in the rest of the story.
