Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai is the journey of a simpleton who revels in the security and warmth of his roots... only to discover that the roots are not really his... Ganga (Govinda) is pure, moralistic & untouched by the realities of life beyond his village - his 'desh'... He lives happily with his indulgent shepherd father (Shivaji Satam) & doting mother, (Reema Lagoo). Sawari (Sonali Bendre) a pretty village belle, sees in him the man of her dreams... Ganga's blissful world comes crashing down when it is revealed that he is infact living with his foster parents. A temporary guest given to them by his industrialist parents (Shakti Kapoor & Himani Shivpuri) who live in the city. This act ordained by Ganga's near fatal illness at infancy is now a thing of the past and the real parents want Ganga back...
