This extremely talented actress is born on 12th of January in the village of Alwar in Rajasthan but has completed her education from the capital of the Indian subcontinent. She completed her graduation from Delhi. After her graduations she was preparing for the entrance tests to the administrative services and mass communications when a close friend of her suggested that she should go and audition for the national broadcaster Doordarshan's film songs based program 'Albela Sur Mela'. To her surprise she was selected and from there begins her journey towards tellydom. On the other hand her traditional career graph had come to a standstill as she failed to clear both the tests. But she did not stop there. Acting was not a new experience for this Delhi lass. During her college days she was the secretary and president of the dramatic society and had her fair share of stage. Facing the camera however was altogether a different experience for her. But she was encouraged to pursue her acting career after her experience in anchoring. Initially the acting bug smote her mainly for the money and popularity. She used to pick serials that did not require much commitment but gradually she excelled her acting skills and developed into a fine actress.

Television:
Tanwar started her career as an anchor in Doordarshan. She anchored the film songs-based program Albela Sur Mela.
She was then seen acting in soaps such as Ehsaas, Dastoor, Bhanwar, and X-Zone before she got her big break of playing the central role in Rajdhani.
She had to work on her voice while playing the character of Sher Bano, in Dastoor.
The major turning point of her career came when she was offered the role of Parvati in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki.
Sakshi has worked in other serials, including Devi, where she played the central character of Gayatri, who is a spiritually inclined woman with a strong connection to Goddess Durga.
She worked on Colors' Balika Vadhu in the role of Teepri.
Since 2011, she plays the character Priya Kapoor in Ekta Kapoor's Bade Achhe Lagte Hain on Sony TV.
In November, 2011 Tanwar made an appearance during the Diwali episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati with Ram Kapoor where they won Rs. 25,00,000. In December 2012, she made an appearance in the Christmas episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (season 6) with Ram Kapoor and Amruta Mukherjee where she won Rs. 12,50,000.
In January 2013, she was voted #1 with Ram Kapoor, by the poll conducted by matrimonial website Shaadi.com which revealed that 42.3% of Indians consider them as the perfect jodi.
In April 2013, she featured as a 'nauch girl' in one of the stories of eight episodic mini-series Ek Thhi Naayka produced by Ekta Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms for the promotion of their upcoming film Ek Thi Daayan.

Other:
She appeared in few movies in 2008, one of them being Coffee House, in which she was the main protagonist. She appeared in a cameo role in Ekta Kapoor's C Kkompany.

Tanwar has played the role of a municipal officer in the movie Saluun. She appeared in two short films, O Re Manva and Bawra Mann. O Re Manva won the best International Narrative Short at the New York International Film Festival in 2009.

She worked as a creative director in the production company Positive Thinkerz and tried her hands directing Sammaan Ek Adhikaar.
