Rajkumar Santoshi is an award winning director and producer in
Bollywood. His movies often are hard hitting, real and he avoids
remakes. He is also known to bring out the best in his actors.
His father was the choreographer P.L.Santoshi.
He
worked as an assistant director for Govind Nihalani's Ardh Satya
(1982). His movies Ghayal (1990) and Damini (1993) starred Sunny Deol.
He won the Filmfare Best Director for both the movies.

movie Andaz Apna Apna (1994) was a comedy and differed from his
previous hits Ghayal and Damini. The movie starred Aamir Khan and
Salman Khan. Barsaat (1995) saw the launch of Bobby Deol and Twinkle
Khanna. After Ghatak (1996) and China Gate (1998), Pukar (2000), a
story about an army officer accused of treason, won the Nargis Dutt
Award.
Lajja (2001) was a woman oriented movie about four Indian
women belonging to different strata of society. The movie had an
impressive cast of Manisha Koirala, Madhuri Dixit, Rekha and Mahima
Choudhry.
The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002) saw Ajay Devgan as
the freedom fighter. The movie won a National Film Award. Khakee (2004)
was another success for Santoshi. He worked with Amitabh Bachchan again
in Family: Ties of Blood (2006) which was a flop.
His last
release was Halla Bol (2008). His next release is a comedy, Ajab Prem
Ki Gazab Kahani, starring Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor. The movie
will be released in theaters in 2009.
