Everyone has definitely heard of the famous proverb
"Old is Gold". Looks
like Bollywood has taken this proverb a tad bit seriously! Out with the
old and in
with the new seems to be latest Bollywood mantra whether it's songs or
movies. Filmakers and composers are
rehashing classics to make some chart topping numbers and this is where
BollyCurry steps in. Here's presenting to you a selection of few such
songs that have been reinvented with a new
masala. Sadly if we
were to present you all those songs we would probably be here for the
next couple of days writing and you would be here for the next couple of
days reading.
What better way for a son to create waves over using
his father's song as a launchpad? Only one movie old,
Ranbir Kapoor
danced to his father,
Rishi Kapoor's, popular song. And while Rishi
Kapoor's version was entertaining,
Ranbir Kapoor
set the screen on fire. Originally sung for the movie
Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin (1977)
by Kishore Kumar, the song was remade in 2008 for the
Ranbir Kapoor starrer of the same name,
Bachna
Ae Haseeno. The song became an instant hit topping the chartbusters. Truly, like
father, like son.
"Har Kisi Ko Nahi Milta"

This classic song from
Jaanbaaz (1986) was remade for 2013
film
Boss where
Sonakshi Sinha was seen emulating
Sridevi
showing her sultry
dance moves and
Akshay Kumar emulated Feroz Khan with the full cowboy
suit. Though the song had a contemporary feel leading it straight to the
top on chartbusters, it definitely failed the classic!
"Raat Akeli Hai"

The
Asha Bhosle song from
Jewel Thief (1967) was given a new
twist in 2011 film
Ragini MMS. The film played the same sound
track, albeit with
some sounds added to give an eerie atmosphere as required in the film.
It did well although we still fail to see why this song was used in the
movie instead of something more "
bhoot-like" (ghost-like). Hats off to both the classic and the remake!
"Khoya Khoya Chaand"

Originally sung by the singing legend, the Late Mohammad Rafi for
Kala Bazar (1960), this classic song was supposedly remade for
Shaitan (2011). While it has its own charm in
Shaitan,
we definitely prefer the classic tune here! The saying "old is gold"
proves itself here because the old song was definitely gold.
"Main Hoon Don"

Well if the movie is being remade then obviously the
song needs to be remade as well? Of course this wasn't the only song
remade in the movie, but we'll discuss this one just because we like it a
bit better. The original song in the
Amitabh Bachchan starrer
Don (1978)">Don (1978)
was sung by Kishore Kumar and became an instant hit at that time. Fast
forward to 2006 and the song is remade and sung by
Shaan for Shah Rukh
Khan's starrer
Don: The Chase Begins Again. Even though the title
track got the makeover, one can't seem to help love the classic more
than the remake, although we do applaud the remake for making waves
itself!
"Hawa Hawaii"

Who can forget the hilarious facial expressions that
Sridevi made in this popular song originally from the movie
Mr. India (1987)? Of course when we're talking about remakes, how can we miss this song? In 2011, this track was remade for
Shaitan (2011). The quirky
take in the film managed to grab a lot of eyeballs, but we still prefer the classic just for
Sridevi!
"Apni Toh Jaise Taise"

An amazing song sung by Kishore Kumar for the
Amitabh Bachchan
and
Zeenat Aman starrer
Laawaris (1981) was remade in 2010 for
Housefull as
a bonding moment between
Akshay Kumar and
Arjun Rampal in the movie.
Even though
the remake has its own essence, the classic is considered to be better
because it had the great
Amitabh Bachchan dancing to its tunes. Hence
the new one gave it a completely different meaning as well as the
quirkiness it needed.
"Mehbooba Mehbooba"

Originally from movie
Sholay (1975), the popular song was
remade for Ram Gopal Varma ki
Aag (2007). Surprisingly both songs
had one thing in common:
Amitabh Bachchan! It seems that his songs are a
popular choice for remakes. Nonetheless, the remake did become popular,
though it may never reach the same heights as the original. After all
no one can beat Helen in dance, even today!
"Khaike Paan Banaras Wala"

Another popular song from the
Amitabh Bachchan starrer,
Don (1978), this song was remade once again for
Shah Rukh Khan in
Don: The Chase Begins Again (2006)
with the added bonus that it was kept in the same context, with the
same lyrics, and the same beat as the original. This one is definitely a
pass because it gives rise to the feel of the classic!
While we presented to you a few of the popular
remakes, the list
definitely doesn't end here as we mentioned above as well. Today
however, Bollywood is all set to create an example by rewriting nursery
rhymes, the latest
being "Johnny Johnny". Now we aren't sure if we would like to see that,
but let it continue is all we can say? Leave a comment below and let us
know what you prefer- the Classic Aged Wine or an Old Wine In New
Bottle!
