Music Review: Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobaara!

After the resounding success of the music in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, expectations have been high for the soundtrack of the sequel to be equally as stunning, or to surpass the first. And with Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan at the helm of the film, BollyCurry does expect the music to be memorable, as their previous movies have been. Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobaara! boasts four tracks, with music by the ever soulful Pritam and lyrics by the talented Rajat Aroraa.

The first song 'Ye Tune Kya Kiya' is a classic traditional qawali adorned with lovely Hindustani accompaniment. The use of the sitar, harmonium and tabla adds a charming quality to the song. Javed Bashir's raw, earthy vocals are a delight to the senses, and the simple yet poetic lyrics create what is sure to be another chart buster for Pritam.

The famous 'Tayyab Ali' by Manmohan Desai from Amar Akbar Anthony is made over in the film by Anupam Amod, and while this remix suits baby-faced Imran Khan, with vocals by Javed Ali, it might be a hit and miss with the masses who remember the original. However, since the teaser for this fun number was released, it has been generating excitement, and this one is a song for the youngsters, with it's humorous mix of Hinglish lyrics.

Sunidhi Chauhan lends her vocals for the item number 'Tu Hi Khwashish'. Naturally retro in the mood of the 70s-80s setting of the film, this racy number takes inspiration from the title track of Shaan. Rhythmic and tantalizing, BollyCurry is sure this number, essayed by Sophie Choudry, on screen will have hearts racing.

The last song is a sweet love ballad sung by Javed Ali with supporting vocals by Sahir Ali Bagga. 'Chugliyaan' has a semi-classical tone, with a little bit of qawwali thrown in, and while on any other album it would be considered good, considering the tracks we have been given from Pritam before, we did expect a lot more. The catchy Punjabi chorus saves the song from mediocrity.

All in all, BollyCurry is a little disappointed by the tracks. One expects so much more from the makers who gave us 'Pee Loon'. However, we do see 'Ye Tune Kya Kiya' and possibly 'Tu Hi Khwashish' on charts in the near future.
