Film: Tanu Weds Manu
Music Director : Krsna
Lyricists: Rajshekhar
Tanu Weds Manu may not be a film that the masses were
eagerly anticipating but the launch of the music album has certainly
caught the ears of many.

It marks the very promising Bollywood debut of
Krsna. Although he has stuck to familiar territory, Krsna has managed to
cleverly show listeners his talent and creativity with the arrangements
and layered use of instruments.
The album starts off on a very upbeat and exuberant note with "Sadi
Gali". Composed by RDB and sung by Lehmber Hussainpuri, this foot
tapping number hooks you on the first listen and puts you in a partying
mood!
After that single contribution, RDB passes the baton onto debutant
composer Krsna, who opens with "Yun Hi". This dreamy love number is
playful, simple and complex all at the same time. As soon as you hear
the humming intro you instantly recognize
Mohit Chauhan's vocals.
Ujjaini Mukherjee does a good job on the backing vocals, but the song definitely belongs to Mohit. It seems as if it was composed for him
only!
Next we hear the composer taking over the mike himself with a Sufi
number, "Rangrez". Krsna does a great job in giving a nuanced
performance and he does it with just the right amount of control and
emotion. There is an alternate version of this song sung by the Wadali
Brothers titled "Hey Rangrez Mere Hey". It is essentially the same but
has that little something special simply because of the earthy vocals
belonging to the Wadali Brothers. In the end, it all comes down to
personal preference.
Many people mistakenly think "Piya" is sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali
when it is in fact sung by the soulful Roop Kumar Rathod. It is a
mistake easily made as on the first listen it does amazingly sound like
Shafqat's vocals; one does have to hear the song very carefully to note
the distinction. All that aside, this track has a semi-classical feel to
it that evokes yearning.
"Manu Bhaiya" led by
Sunidhi Chauhan with back up from a
chorus compiled of Ujjaini, Vivek Naik, Manjeera, Niladri Debnath and
Rakhi Chand has a folksy desi flavor that puts you in a fun, teasing
mood, definitely worthy of a listen to pep up any mood!
Last but not the least, the album finishes off with "Jugni" by Mika
Singh. It is an out and out Punjabi track that is not up to par with
"Sadi Gali" but nevertheless has the potential to grow on you after a
few listens.
The varied soundtrack which doesn't boast of anything abstractly
fresh but all the tracks are immensely engaging and definitely worth a
listen!
