Asian Film Festival underway in Pune

madhur bhandharkarPune, Nov 1 (IANS) Film buffs in Pune are in for a treat as the seven-day Fifth Asian Film Festival, featuring 90 films from the region, was kicked off Thursday.

The festival was inaugurated by Hindi film director Madhur Bhandarkar, whose works are also to be screened here. Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal would also participate in the festival.

The event has a special section on Chinese films. It will also feature classics, including 'Rashomon' by Japanese master Akira Kurosawa.

All films will be screened at a multiplex in Kothrud.

The festival named Yash Chopra as the brand ambassador of Hindi cinema. The renowned filmmaker was also named winner of the Zenith Asian award, part of the festival for the last two years.
