Romance, as a genre, has been explored in the Hindi film industry to a point that we, as audiences, have reached a certain saturation. Well, siblings Karnesh and
Anushka Sharma are all set to break some stereotypes with their second home production,
Phillauri. Directed by debutant
Anshai Lal, the movie features Sharma herself in the lead, opposite
Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma paired with Tollywood actress, Mehreen Pirzada. Fox Star Studios and Clean Slate Films recently released the trailer of the same, and we at BollyCurry were totally in for a surprise.

In the opening scene, family and superstitions compel Suraj Sharma to marry a tree (you read that right) before his to-be wife, Pirzada. Little does he know that his first bride is not an object, but a friendly spirit, Shashi (
Anushka Sharma) residing in the same tree. This twist is followed by some comical moments, as Shashi latches to Sharma claiming to be his legally wedded wife. As we discover the once-human Shashi's love affair with Dosanjh in
Phillauri, Punjab, the trailer ends with overlapping instances between the past and the present, leaving the viewer's mind in a daze.
We know what you're thinking, the plot does bear an uncanny resemblance to the
Shah Rukh Khan-
Rani Mukerji starrer
Paheli (2005). Now we're not drawing any parallels, because though
Phillauri boasts of all quintessences, a rom-com must possess - drama, humour, ardour and agony - it is nothing like one!
We all know the brilliant actress that
Anushka Sharma is, but who knew her choices as producer would be equally exhilarating. Her innocence, both in her paranormal and mortal self, literally owns the screen. Post
Udta Punjab (2016), Dosanjh is seen flaunting his chiselled body and magical voice and with that we know he is here to stay. And let's not forget how Sharma and Dosanjh leave us gawking at their effortless chemistry. Suraj Sharma, who played the titular role in
Life of Pi (2012), is the comic relief amidst the emotional warmth.
Set against the locales of rural Punjab, Lal seemingly does justice with the lens. The screenplay and dialogues by Anvita Dutt manage to tickle your funny bone and tear glands at the same time. Though, if we were to be asked,
Phillauri belongs to
Anushka Sharma, not just financially but also emotionally.
Following the success of their maiden project NH10 (2015), Bollywood's first brother-sister producer duo are only raising the bar higher. As Phillauri is slated to hit the theatres on 24th March, 2017, we at BollyCurry rate the trailer, a 4 out of 5 hinting at the immense excitement we behold for the movie. We also urge you to tune into YouTube or your favourite video streaming website to give the trailer a watch, because of its off-centre take on a tale of love and separation.
