One of the finest
actresses in Bollywood at the moment, who recently made her production debut with her last film,
NH10,
Anushka Sharma celebrates her 27th birthday today, the
1st of May.
Born in Ayodhya to
army officer Colonel Ajay Sharma, and his homemaker wife Ashima Sharma, Sharma
spent her chilldhood in Bangalore. Despite having no interest in
the world of acting and primarily being interested in a modelling career, her cute features
and talent landed her a three film deal with the prestigious Yash Raj Films.
Sharma made her
dream debut opposite megastar
Shah Rukh Khan in the 2008 film,
Rab Ne Bana Di
Jodi. The movie went on to do moderately well at the box office, and Sharma's
work was praised by all and sundry. Her next outing was in
Badmaash Company (2010),
which went remotely unnoticed, and it appeared as if Sharma's acting career was
gone for good. However, with the immensely successful
Band Baaja Baarat (2010) opposite then
debutant
Ranveer Singh, Sharma affirmed her place
in the industry.
Since then, Sharma
has gone on to appear in a number of films, such as
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) and
PK (2014),
where she was appreciated for her stellar performances. Donning the producer's
hat for her next film,
NH10, Sharma starred in and co-produced the film with
Phantom Productions and Eros International. The movie emerged as a sleeper hit,
and the hard-hitting storyline coupled with magnificent performances by Sharma
and Darshan Kumar (last seen in
Mary Kom as Onler) won the film great praise,
and performed extremely well at the box office. Her performances have earned
her many accolades and awards, including the prestigious Dadasaheb
Phalke Award in 2011 and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in
2013.
One of the few actresses in the industry who's been open about her relationships,
Sharma has been dating ace cricketer
Virat Kohli since late 2014. She has
often been spotted cheering Kohli on at his matches, and the two have gone on
record to talk about how special they are to one another.
