2014 Flashback: Cinematic Shadows

As rays of the sun caress the last days of this year, as hearts turn on to the last chapters of 2014 in the book of life, as minds make New Year resolutions for fresh beginnings, the eyes seem to pause one last time as the panorama of memories pass in front of them. Were we to look upon the year from the eyes of Bollywood, we'd boldly say that 2014 had some amazing movies. While the brilliance of a numerous actors shone out like sunshine, the absence of many others seemed to remind constantly of how closely the shadows lurked. Today BollyCurry takes a detour to those stars who chose to remain in the shadows and did not grace the silver screen with their presence this year.

The actor who lit up the cinema screens and made several hearts trip over themselves left a gaping hole in the hearts of millions with his absence this year. Ranbir Kapoor of Barfi fame, who has his name embossed in the annals of cinematic brilliance, stayed behind the curtains much to the dismay of his ardent fans. Kapoor was sorely missed this year and is expected to be back with the bang as he is without question one of the brightest rising stars in Bollywood today.

It wouldn't be correct to say that Sushant Singh Rajput has been totally off the screen this year, given his cameo in PK but yet the fact remains that he hasn't shone out either. Rajput who had a big leap from television with his sparkling debut in Kai Po Che, was eclipsed from the silver screen this year. His flair for acting and his vibrancy on screen has kept his fans rooted to watch him step in front of the camera and shine with the same brilliance he promised through his debut.

The Adonis of Bollywood, who is better known for his striking good looks rather than his acting prowess, although they do exist, seemed to fade off the screen in 2014. The actor who achieved the heights of fame with his excellent performance in movies like Rock On and Rajneeti, appears to have donned on a cloak of invisibility. His absence has surely made many hearts grow fonder and his fans wouldn't settle for anything less than several films in his kitty in the upcoming year.

May it be the pain of unrequited love or the struggle of a single mother, this hazel eyed beauty is known to portray each role to perfection. Popularly known for her stunningly expressive performances, Kajol Devgn appears to be on a hiatus from the big screen for almost two years now. After grazing so many hearts with her charming smile and flawless performances, the absence of this power house actress has kindled a feeling of nostalgia.

The beautiful and talented Asin Thottumkal who touched a chord in the heart with her soulful performance in Ghajini and her sassy sultry looks that left the audience mesmerized in Houseful 2 did not command the screen in 2014. With the advent of the New Year, we hope that Thottumkal puts her artistic boots on and graces the screen to dazzle the audience with her charm once again.
