Welcome to the birthday celebrations of a petite, sweet, beautiful actress. Yes, today is the birthday of the gracious Amrita Rao!

Rao has always kept her personal life private, however, what we do know is that she hails from a Konkani family. She was born in Karnataka, but when her father decided to open an advertising agency, her family moved to Mumbai where she was then raised and graduated with a Psychology degree from Sophia College. Rao has a younger sister, Preetika Rao, who has made a name for herself in the popular Colors TV show, Beintehaa.

While studying, Rao auditioned for a Fairever Face Cream advertisement which then lead to the appearance in many other commercials including Cadbury's Perk Karwa Chaut and Bru Coffee. She also appeared in many music videos of songs sung by Alisha Chinai. All these assignments brought Rao to the notice of many top Bollywood directors and producers so it wasn't a surprise that she was soon offered Bollywood movies. Rao made her debut in Ab Ke Baras (2002) opposite Arya Babbar, but it was her role in Ishq Vishk (2003) opposite Shahid Kapoor that brought her into the limelight. The petite lass then went on to star in many movies such as Masti (2004), Main Hoon Na (2004), Vivah (2006), Welcome to Sajjanpur (2008) and Jolly L.L.B (2013).

Rao has been nominated several times for awards such as Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for Ishq Vishk, Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Main Hoon Na and Zee Cine Award Best Female Debut for Ishq Vishk. Rao has won the IIFA Award for Best Female Debut for Ishq Vishk, the Stardust Superstar of Tomorrow (Female) for Ishq Vishk, and the Stardust Searchlight Best Actress Award for Welcome to Sajjanpur.
