Today, BollyCurry is celebrating the birthday of two
actresses who have never followed the safe path in Bollywood, and they
are none other than the exemplary
Supriya Pathak and the gorgeous
Bipasha Basu!
Supriya Pathak was born on 7
th January,
1961 to Dina Pathak, who herself was a well known actress of the 80's.
She is married to Bollywood and television actor and director, Pankaj
Kapur and has a daughter and two sons of which one is her stepson,
Shahid Kapur. Ratna Pathak Shah is her sister and her brother-in-law is
Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna's husband. Pathak started her carrier with
Kalyug in 1981 followed by many hits such as
Vijeta (1982),
Bazaar (1982),
Mirch Masala (1985)
and
Gandhi (1982), in which she played the role of Gandhi's niece. She also starred in
Raakh (1989), which received 3 National Film Awardsalthough it didn't do well in the box office, and in the blockbuster movie
Shahenshah, as
Amitabh Bachchan's sister. In the early 90's, she took a long break
from movies to concentrate on her personal life and returned in 2005
with
Sarkaar opposite Amitabh Bachchan, followed by
Wake Up Sid (2009).
Although Pathak has played many roles, be it in films or television,
she is best known for her role in the television series
Khichdi as Hansa Parekh. Recently, Pathak was seen in another popular television serial,
Chhan Chhan, as the dominating mother-in-law and then in the recently-released
Ram Leela (2013), a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. Here's wishing this stellar lady a very happy birthday!
On the other hand,
Bipasha Basu was born on 7
th January,
1979 to a Bengali family in Delhi and studied at Apeejay High School.
Basu was initially spotted by model Mehr Jessia Rampal at a hotel in
Kolkata who told her to take up modelling, which she did. She became a
successful model at the age of 17 and has won many beauty pageants since
then. On her personal front, Basu dated Dino Morea from 1996 to
2002. She then dated actor John Abraham and shared a live-in
relationship with him until early 2011 when they officially broke
up. Basu's debuted in
Ajnabee (2001), which earned her a Filmfare
Award for Best Female Debut. It was an exemplary debut as in her first
film itself Basu played a gray character in the form of a conniving wife
who sided with her boyfriend (played by Akshay Kumar) to frame their
do-gooder neighbours for her husband's murder. She then appeared as
Sanjana in the horror flick
Raaz (2002), which also did really
well at the box office and got her a nomination for the Filmfare Best
Actress award. Her next few films didn't do well, but she soon bounced
back with the thriller
Jism (2003)
, which did well at the
box office and earned her appreciation for her good looks, bold role and
seductive deep voice. She experienced a slump at the box office over
the next few releases, but soon hit success again with
No Entry (2005),
Omkara (2006) and
Dhoom 2 (2006) among other releases. She was then seen in
Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal in 2007, alongside her then boyfriend, John Abraham. While,
Goal was
not on the list of popular movies, the song "Billo Rani" became a huge
hit of the year. In 2008, she played the role of a successful supermodel
in
Bachna Ae Haseeno followed by an appearance in the song "Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte" from the movie
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008). She has continued to experience success in her choice of movies, such as the comic role in
All The Best: Let the Fun Begin! (2009), her somewhat villainous role in
Raaz 3 (2012), and then the role of a single mother in
Aatma (2013).
