actress and producer,
Juhi Chawla, who starts another chapter of her
life today!
Born on 13th November, 1967, Chawla turns 46 today. She was born in
Ambala, Haryana, as the first child to Dr. S. Chawla and Mona Chawla.
She attended Fort Convent School and then continued her education
at Sydenham College, specializing in HR. In 1984, she was crowned Miss
India, which saw her winning the Best Costume award as well.
Chawla debuted in Bollywood with the movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988)
opposite Aamir Khan as the male lead. The film won her the Filmfare Lux
New Face Award and was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress
award. The film eventually won the Filmfare award for Best Movie and
also received a cult classic status. Chawla then went on to perform in
many box office hits including Darr (1993), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Yes Boss (1997) and Ishq (1997).
During the 2000s, she ventured into art and independent cinema as well
as acting in her native tongue, Punjabi. The beauty continued to gain
critical recognition for her roles in movies such as Jhankaar Beats (2003), My Brother Nikhil (2005), Bas Ek Pal (2006) and I Am (2011).
Chawla also branched into television shows as a host, especially
for award ceremonies such as the Filmfare Awards and Zee Cine Awards.
She also judged the third season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. It was
not long before she delved into production and started her own company
with best buddy Shah Rukh Khan called Dreamz Unlimited. The banner has
produced movies such as Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000), Asoka (2001) and Chalte Chalte (2003).
Chawla is married to Jay Mehta, an industrialist, and has two
children: Jhanvi born in 2001 and Arjun born in 2003. The couple co-own
the Indian Premier League team of Kolkata Knight Riders along with Shah
Rukh Khan.
