Yesterday marked the birthday of Bollywood's yesteryear diva fondly known as the "Lady in White". Yes, we are talking of actress and chat show queen, Simi Garewal.
Garewal
was
born in Delhi to J.S. Garewal on 17th October,1947 but soon shifted to
London to live with her sister and study at Newland House School.
However, she returned to India in her teens weaving dreams of becoming
an actress. In order to make those dreams come true, she
joined
the Filmalaya Acting School and reminded Mehboob Khan about how they
met two years ago where she professed her eagerness to act. Khan, who
was then in the process of wrapping up
Son Of India (1962), offered her a small role in the film. She was again seen in the movie named
Mera Naam Joker (1970) in a minor role, co-starring Manoj Kumar and Raj Kapoor. She has also worked in the movies
Do Badan,
Saathi and
Karz.
In
1980, she married Ravi Mohan who belonged to the Royal ChunnaMal family
from Old Delhi. However, her marriage was short affair and and they soon divorced. She
then decided to return her focus to her career with her attention
shifting to behind the cameras, thus opening her own production company
named Siga Arts International. Produced by her own company, she hosted
TV shows such as
Living Legend Raj Kapoor (1984) and
Rendezvous with Simi Garewal (1997). She returned to TV yet again in the year 2011 by hosting the talk show on Star Plus titled
India's most Desirable.
Apart from on-screen, Garewal is
famous for making public appearances mostly in white colored outfits
that are neatly designed and suited to her personality. She has also
quite an impressive list of songs to her credit from her
credible appearances in films. Below are just a few we tend to remember
when thinking of her.
- "Mere Jeevan Saathi" - Saathi
