Director in the Spotlight: Gauri Shinde

Shinde was born on November 30th in Pune where she spent her childhood as well. She graduated from Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication and later moved to Mumbai for an internship with Siddharth Kak before moving on to working with different advertising agencies. At one particular agency, Lowe Lintas, she met her to-be-spouse, director R. Balki, where he assumed the role of creative director. The duo got married in 2007, just before the release of directorial debut, Cheeni Kum.

Shinde debuted in the Hindi film industry with the movie English Vinglish. As the saying goes, a writer always leaves a mark of their personal life and experiences in their work - a saying particularly true in this instance. The concept of the film was inspired from her real life as a dedication to her mother and a means to ask for forgiveness for feeling embarrassed when her mother could not speak English. The movie also marked the comeback of the very talented actress, Sridevi Kapoor.

 

This aspiring director may have merely made her debut but nonetheless has garnered exclusive attention towards herself. The lady surely has a bright future awaiting her with her name already included in the list of 'Bollywood's Best 5 Director's of 2012'. Her awards include Best Debut Director, Most Promising Debut Director, Best Mainline Film and Laadli National Media Award for Gender Sensitivity, and her journey has just begun!

With Shinde currently having no plans for children in the near future and the couple believing they have  much to do in their lives, it comes as no surprise for the audience to see the lady outshine herself. With her experience as a director better than her husband's, BollyCurry is sure to say she will leave no stone unturned in pulling herself out of his shadow and into the limelight. It is safe to say that Shinde has made a place for herself already.
