This week BollyCurry celebrates National Payroll Week and as part of it, we bring to you the top five highest grossing films of 2013 till date, in ascending order.
Standing at fifth position is the 26th April released musical romance,
Aashiqui 2. Directed by
Mohit Suri and produced under the banner of Vishesh Films, this is one film which made its lead actors - Aditya Roy Kapoor and
Shraddha Kapoor - stars overnight. Collecting a total of 85.4 crores,
Aashiqui 2 was a surprise hit with a beautifully carved love story and some soothing soundtracks. Though the climax was tragic and ended on a sad note, the film surely grabbed eyeballs.
In fourth position of our list is
Race 2, one of the most awaited sequels of 2013. With a star-studded cast of
Deepika Padukone,
Saif Ali Khan,
John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandes and
Anil Kapoor, the film released on 25th January and managed to collect a total of 102 crores. If one digs deep into the plot of the film, you can hardly find logic but still get carried away by Abbas-Mastan's minute after minute twists. At times, a film's success may depend on the promotion strategies and the star casts rather than an enjoyable scripts. This movie is one such film.
3. Bhaag Milka Bhaag
Released on 12th July,
Bhaag Milka Bhaag makes it to position three with a brilliant script, story line and promising cast of
Farhan Akhtar,
Sonam Kapoor and
Divya Dutta. It had a total collection of 103.5 crores. We must appreciate that director
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has created the autobiography of Milka Singh with ease and perfection. Giving the best work of his career so far, Farhan was flawless as the central character and has immersed in himself the soul of Milka Singh. With the perfect script and apt soundtracks,
Bhaag Milka Bhaag is one film which truly deserves the place it has acquired.
With a total collection of 190.03 crores,
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani sits at position two. Whether it be the sizzling moves in "Badtameez Dil" or "Balam Pichkari", or the mesmerizing
latka jhatkas of
Madhuri Dixit Nene in "Ghagra",
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a musical joy ride. However, the story line does not possess much, which is a setback. Probably director Ayan Mukerji's magic of bringing ex-flames
Ranbir Kapoor and
Deepika Padukone together did work for the film's success. Well, one cannot just ignore the irresistible on-screen chemistry of Ranbir and Deepika and the film did manage to charm viewers.
Chennai Express, the film that made it to the top. Though it released on August 9th, this
Rohit Shetty action romance has collected a whopping 224.10 crores, and the figure is still climbing, running successfully in multiplexes.
Chennai Express was one of the most awaited films of this year and the flawless chemistry of
Shah Rukh Khan and
Deepika Padukone was a treat to watch. Moreover, the film has already broken several box office records in a short time span. A critical analysis proves that the plot lacks story content, yet it managed to tickle the funny bones with it's witty humor.
So here are the top five highest grossing films of 2013. These movies made you groove to their soundtracks and even has you enjoy watching them at the theatres with your friends and families. While dropping the pen, this writer would love to know which is your favorite film from the top five list!
