The
16th of July is rather unique for the ardent fans of Katrina Kaif as
Bollywood's Barbie turns another year older. Born to a Kashmiri father
and British mother, Kaif was born and brought up in London by her mom.
It's quite a shocking fact that despite being one of the leading
actresses of Bollywood, she lives in India with a employment visa as she
remains a British citizen.
Katrina
started off her career as a model at the age of 14 and went on to do
many successful modeling projects in London. During one of her ramp
shows, she came across director Kaisad Gustad who was impressed by the
lass that he cast her in his 2003 film Boom marking
her debut in Bollywood. The film, however, failed to impress audiences
and was a flop. Therefore, she was rejected by almost all the known
filmmakers. Well, it's said that success never stops chasing one and the
same happened with Katrina too. After her debut film was a disaster,
she stuck to cameo roles but things took a positive turn when David
Dhawan cast her opposite Salman Khan in the 2005 film Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya which was a commercial success. Soon followed her subsequent set of blockbuster hits including Namaste
London, Partner, Welcome, Race, Singh is Kinng, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab
Kahaani, New York, Rajneeti, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Mere Brother Ke
Dulhan, Ek Tha Tiger and, the 2012 Yash Raj romantic drama, Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
With a long list of successes to cherish, Katrina surely has more fantastic projects in hand like the much awaited Dhoom 3 alongside Aamir Khan and the action comedy Bang Bang opposite
Hrithik Roshan. She has really evolved as an actress with each film she
did by improving her acting skills and fluency in Hindi. Her efforts
were well applauded by fans and in the forms of numerous awards by
critics! In the year 2009 and 2011, respectively, she won the Filmfare
Best Actress Award for the films New York and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.
Many other functions like Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards, IIFA awards
and Stardust Awards have showered her with various awards too.
