Dimple Kapadia, who started her career at the mere age of 16 as a
leading female actress, now continues her legacy in Bollywood with
various enactments of the role of a mother. Of recent times, she was
seen in movies such as
Dabangg,
Patiala House and
Cocktail, all of which put another feather in her already stuffed cap.
In
Dabangg
(2010), Dimple played the role of Naini Devi, Salman Khan's mother.
Although a motherly figure, she was portrayed as a weak character in the
movie who did not last til the end but exited in a strong manner
nonetheless. She had a pretty small role, that of a typical housewife
cum mother, dressed in completely traditional
sarees too. But her
heart ultimately lied with her sons, despite her not being able to
project it strongly and it was her untimely death that fueled the story
on. However, despite her limited presence, Dimple's acting received
criticism from various reviews; some praised her positively and others
in a negative notion.
Her next movie was
Patiala House
(2011) in which she played Mrs. Kahlon, mother of Akshay Kumar, with
the latter aspiring to become a cricketer. Dimple is shown to be
supportive to her husband throughout the movie, and even goes against
her son in order to prove to be a "good" wife. However, later on in the
movie, she stands with the truth once she sees that her son is in need
of moral support. From this point on, her character is of a strong
mother who is firm in her stand in supporting her son, until he reigns
victorious. Dimple was praised for portraying the role of a wife cum
mother of a typical Indian Punjabi cultural family settled outside of
India.
Recently, Dimple was seen in
Cocktail (2012), alongside
Boman Irani, Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and newcomer, Diana Penty.
Dimple's role stood out in this movie as she helped Saif and Diana's
characters come together by bringing them to the realiziation of their
love for one another and getting them married. This role of hers was a
complete contrast to the other two roles that she played the previous
movies. In this flick, it was all about Dimple's young heart, her
beautiful looks and her brilliant comedy; which undoubtedly added the
perfect flavor to
Cocktail. With this, Dimple proved herself yet
again that not only can she do films that portray her as a serious
character, but also movies that show her other side of being charming
and joyous.
Dimple Kapadia is definitely climbing the success ladder
once again, with all the motherly roles that she has recently been
portraying in numerous super hit flicks. BollyCurry wishes her all the
best in her future endeavors and hope to see more acting prowess from
her soon. Writers: Saraa K & Fariha L.Editors: Sonia R. & Jenifer Y.Graphics: Preet K.
