The singing
sensation better known as a Ghazal maestro,
Pankaj Udhas, will turn a year
older today, May 17th, celebrating his 61st birthday!
Udhas, born in Jetpur and has two other brothers who have also earned success as Ghazal singers, is famously recognized
for his
contribution in bringing the Ghazal style to the realm of popular music.
However, he found his stairs to success with his rendition of the song
"Chitthi Aayee Hai" from
Naam.
This talented singer started his career with a stage performance as he sang "Aye Mere Watan Ke
Logo" and earned the ultimate fame. In the years to come, he also performed as a
playback singer for numerous films. He has recorded many albums since then and tours
the world as an accomplished Ghazal singer. Some of his albums which
were a hit with the audiences are Mukarrar, Tarrannum, Mehfil, Shamakhana,
Aman, Woh Ladki Yaad Aati Hai, Stolen Moments, Mahek, Ghoonghat, Muskan,
Dhadkan and many others. Some of his beautiful compositions from films include, "Aisa Bhi
Ek Zamana", "Chithi Ayee Hai", "Dil Deta Hai Ro Ro", "Main Tere Saath Hoon", "Main
Deewana Hoon", "Log Barson Juda Hoke" among countless others.
In his singing career, this amazing voice has
earned many awards to his credit including the prestigious Padmashree,
The Kalakar Award, Dadabhai
Naoroji Millennium Award, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, USA Award, K L Saigal
Award
for the Best Ghazal Singer of the Year along with numerous others.
Udhas is happily married to Farida and they have two daughters, Nayaab and Reva.
Pankaj Udhas surely
has a long way to go before he retires and we hope he continues to entertain us all with his soulful
Ghazal renditions. As successes gone by, we are sure to see many more coming ahead for him. Here's wishing
