8th March, 2013 saw the release of two completely different flavors; Tigmanshu Dhulia's
Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster Returns, a sharper, smarter and intelligent tale of crime, lust and betrayal, and Anshul Sharma's
Saare Jahaan Se Mehnga which is a satirical story of inflation and rapidly rising prices.
Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster Returns, sequel to
Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster (2011)
opened with a decent collection of 3.50 crores at the domestic Box
Office, which then

increased to 4.25 crore on the second day of its
release. The movie now stands at a domestic total of about 12.75 crore.
In two days
Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster Returns recovered its total
budget. Outlining struggle of power in U.P., it made fair business in
Delhi, U.P. and East Punjab by collection over 12 crores domestically.
The film features
Irrfan Khan,
Jimmy Shergill,
Mahie Gill and Soha Ali
Khan. The characters are portrayed very well and the conflicts they
share is easily identifiable. Even though it is an intelligent story,
the balance is maintained overall.
Contrary to it, Saare Jahaan se Mehnga
released with an earning of just 1 crore on its first day and is only
expected to earn 3-4 crores till weekend. Though it had an attention
seeking concept, which relates to the growing frustration among middle
class due to inflation, the writers failed to build a central concept.
The movie is a relevant and honest portrayal of this overarching issue,
but it does not contain anything particularly interesting to draw
audiences. It features Sanjay Mishra, Pragati Vishwa Mohan Badola, Rajan
Chhabra, Disha, Pramod Pathak, Zakir Hussain and Sitaram Panchal.
Though neither of the movies were big openers this year, Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster Returns managed to do better than its competitor Saare Jahaan se Mehenga
in terms of revenues and collections. A thriller concept and satirical
drama in different packages though presented a wide array for audiences
to pick from, but it appears that both only managed to garner a gloomy
response. We, at BollyCurry, advise you movie-goers to wait a bit before
celebrating the real essence of March and the movies it shall bring!
