Lakhan or Mr. India of Bollywood,
Anil Kapoor turns 53 this year on 24th December.
Anil Kapoor is one of the three siblings born to film producer Surinder
Kapoor and Nirmal Kapoor. His siblings are the successful producer Boney Kapoor
and actor Sanjay Kapoor!
Kapoor entered the
acting world with a supporting role in Umesh Mehra's
Humare Tumhare in 1979. After a string of

supporting roles in
the Hindi Film industry, he tried his hands in the Southern Indian film
industry. However, after a few films there, he returned to Bollywood with more supporting roles.
Meri Jung turned
out to be his first commercial success in which he played an angry young lawyer
fighting for justice.
With his movies like Chameli ki Shaadi, Tezaab, Beta, Woh
Saat Din, Meri Jung, Janbaaz, Karma, Mr. India, Virasat, Woh Saat Din, Laadla, Judaai hitting
the jackpot at the box-office, he was honoured with awards. He fetched the
Filmfare best Actor award for Tezaab
and Beta, along with a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor, for his
movies Biwi No.1 and
Virasat and earning him his 1st National Award was the critically
acclaimed film, Pukar. He was also
awarded the Filmfare Award, in the Best Supporting Actor category,
for his role in Yash Chopra's Mashaal and
in Subhash Ghai's Taal.
The man is cherished
for his roles in Ram Lakhan and Mr. India which gave him renowned
nicknames such as Lakhan and Mr. India.
He debuted as a producer with the critically acclaimed film, Gandhi
My Father. In 2008, Kapoor scripted history by staring in his first English
project, the Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire. He was
globally appreciated for his performance in this film and this formed the
bridge to his next English venture Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in
2010. Along with movies he also joined the hit television series 24, playing the character President Omar Hassan. Currently he is busy with some of his releases this year and the
subsequent year which also includes the indian interpretation of the series 24!
Kapoor is married to
Sunita Kapoor since 1985 and is the father of 3 kids; actress
Sonam Kapoor,
producer
Rhea Kapoor and son Harshwardan Kapoor.
