Popularly known as
Punjab Da Puttar, Dharam Singh Deol, or even more recognized as Bollywood's
Dharmendra Singh Deol, born on 8th December 1935, will turn 77 this year!
This
veteran actor has been seen in over 250 films. Sometimes called the
"He-Man" or the "Action King" of

Hindi cinema, he has starred in
numerous action films, and is considered a living legend. His acting and
performances are were loved by audiences and critics alive. He has
numerous awards to his name including a National award, 2 Filmfare
awards including the prestigious Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award,
given for his contribution to Indian Cinema. The IIFA awards also
honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 2007. Dharam
ji was also honored with a Padmabhushan for his contribution to Indian
Cinema.
Dharmendra opened his career innings with the film
Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere (1960), but did not taste his real commercial success until
Phool Aur Patthar (1966). Later, he starred in the highest grossing film of the year
Sholay (1975),
as the inimitable Veeru opposite the "dream girl"
Hema Malini. He has
also been seen opposite numerous other decorated and revered actresses
of B-town including Meena Kumari, Saira Banu,
Sharmila Tagore, Mumtaz,
Asha Parekh, Rekha,
Zeenat Aman, etc. However, his most successful
pairing by far was with
Hema Malini.
Currently, he is married to
Hema Malini and has two daughters,
Esha Deol and Aahana, with her. He has
four other children from his previous marriage to Prakash Kaur and they
are actors
Sunny Deol and
Bobby Deol, Vijeeta Deol and Ajeeta Deol.
