The Band Baaja Baarat lead actor, Ranveer Singh, is apparently Ranveer Bhavnani. Confused? Well, the latest news is that Ranveer dropped his surname for B-Town!
Ranveer is not the only B-Town celeb who has done this; this fashion has been running since the beginning of Bollywood itself.
One of Bollywood's biggest actors, Dilip Kumar, also changed his name. Dilip Kumar's real name was Yusuf Khan, but he did changed it to a more Indian name! Also Bollywood actor Jeetendra did a name changing; his real name was Ravi Kapoor.
Others to follow this trend include Akshay Kumar, whose real name is Rajiv Bhatia. Akshay still uses his name Rajiv commonly, as the name Akshay Kumar is only a stage name used in the industry! It works to his advantage since he can sport the nondescript garb of plain 'ol Rajiv Bhatia whenever he wants! Apparently, it comes in handy particularly while travelling!
Have you heard of any Ajay and Vijay Singh Deol? I bet not. Apparently these are the real names of our Deol brothers, Sunny and Bobby Deol. They were named Ajay and Vijay at the time of birth, but later changed to Sunny and Bobby respectively when they entered Bollywood. But both continue to use their original names to avoid any confusion regarding tickets, visas and other official matters!
Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, prefers traveling under his birth name, Vishal Devgan. He feels this provides him privacy till the time he reaches the airport, also the name sounds so common that it doesn't attract attention.
Not only did Bollywood actors change their names, actresses have done so too! One of them is Bollywood's "Sheila" aka Katrina Kaif. Katrina who is popular word wide with her name Katrina Kaif, is not a Kaif in reality, apparently Katrina's passport still mentions Katrina as Katrina Turquotte. Katrina changed her last name for two reasons: the first being that her last name would be a bit difficult to pronounce and secondly, she thought that adding Kaif makes her sound more Indian and would make her acceptance into Bollywood easier!
Last but not less we have Shahid Kapoor. Shahid's last name is neither Kapoor nor Azim (Azim is his mother's maiden name). His name on his passport reads "Shahid Khattar". The reason behind this is that Shahid's mother Neelima Azim was married to Bollywood actor Rajesh Khattar, but they later got divorced. However Shahid still has to use "Khattar" as his last name while traveling.
Well, BollyCurry hopes that this newest entrant into the long list of celebs who changed their names for fame finds as much success as his predecessors!
