Not so long ago, events such as Diwali, Eid or maybe just summer
break was known to be the best time to release a film seeing how there
would be a greater chance for audience interest. But now, it seems that
all events and holidays have been grabbed up by actors and film-makers
alike as an opportunity to release their films.
Ever since actor
Aamir Khan's movies such as
Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini, and
3 Idiots
have produced three consecutive hits at the box office, others have
been

greatly inspired and are now following in his footsteps in their
own style. For the past few years, Salman Khan's most recent hits have
taken a liking to be released during the festival of Eid, with films
such as
Wanted and
Dabangg. Ajay Devgn has also interpreted this style by releasing hit films during the auspicious time of Diwali with films such as
Golmaal Returns, All The Best, and
Golmaal 3.
With upcoming weekends that coincide with major events such as
Republic Day, Valentine's Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti and
Lohri, dates are now furiously being checked by all to see when which
film should hit the cinema halls.
Rumors are that producers of
Don 2, Ritesh Sidhwani and
Farhan Akhtar, have decided that their movie should be released during
the Christmas weekend. Along with that,
Aamir Khan's film with director
Reema Kagti might also be release the very same weekend, reason being
that both films are to be produced by the same production house.
However, rumors are rumors and there are chances that these might not be
true at all. If anything, Aamir's film might not be coming out till
later next year, while
Shah Rukh Khan's
Don 2 is surely release this Christmas.
Has it come to a time where all major films will now only work if they're released during a big event or holiday?
