Living up to his promise of making the current and latest season of his
talk show, Koffee With Karan, bigger and better than before, KJo comes
up with yet another interesting group of guests for the coming episode -
the said being people who call the shots in Bollywood, the leader
behind the scenes, the man (or woman) with the big hat - yes, we talk of the directors!
Inviting
some of his friends, and competitors in the obvious sense, Karan gets
talking with Imtiaz Ali, Farah Khan, and Raju Hirani - three names that
define cine-success of our times, and three names who except for this
common success factor, are quite distinct from each other in their
directorial roles!
The highlight of Karan in conversation with the Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal
director, Imtiaz Ali, had to be when the host put his guest in a spot,
one more time over his choice between Shahid and Saif - the leads boys
of his two biggest blockbusters. And Imtiaz, going on record backed up
Chotte Nawab Saif. Why then, one would wonder, would Imtiaz have upset
his favored actor's lady love Kareena, by not casting her opposite beau
Saif in Love Aaj Kal instead of Deeps; that despite the acclaim she won herself and for him in Jab We Met?
Apparently, the director prefers to, and has so far succeeded in not
having the same actors come back time and again for his movies. (We can't help but wonder if Karan Johar takes that hint right?!) In answer to pick the most worthy competitor as a director, Ali names Anurag Basu (of Life in a Metro fame) and the greatest Khan in his opinion is the king himself, SRK.
Next
on the talk show walks in the very charming, very vivacious and ever
friendly Farah Khan - the choreographer turned director wo has won apmle
fame with both her roles behind the scenes. And yes, she faces her
share of gossip questioning, when Karan brings up her tiff with Sanjay
Leela Bhansali, and her even more talked about fall out with dear friend
SRK. To the latter, Farah comes clean, claiming she prays for the
success of King Khan everyday, owing a part of it to the faith he placed
in her debut directorial efforts, giving her in consequence, mega hits
like Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. The talk gains a
lighter and mischievous tone when Farah gets asked about her romancing
now husband Shirish Kunder who was editor on Imtiaz's debut Socha Naa Tha, and Farah cheekily reveals having danced with her then lover in the edits rooms et al, to the songs of the movie. Sigh! We
know where all those dreamy love story ideas pop up into her films from
- chapters torn right out of her own book of life! Going on record,
when asked by the unrelenting KJo, Farah claims her vote for best
director goes to Raju Hirani.
And mentioning him, the director with the likes of 3 Idiots and Munnabhai series
in his kitty, is sure a man of commendable humility. Raju gets his
share of hard questions too - in reply to picking his favorite director,
comes the name of Imtiaz Ali - gracious that! In response to picking
his favorite Khan however, Raju dodges making choice by naming Farah!
And a mention of controversy brings Raju to the one question that has
been a loud chapter in the success of 3 Idiots - the accusation
of author Chetan Bhagat on grounds of plagiarism. Asked about producer
Vidhu Vinod Chopra's reaction to the same, Raju deems it to have been
'too loud' for his personal non-controversy liking ways.
With
Bollywod's four phenomenal directors coming together on screen in a
talk show, like never before, here's one episode of Koffee With Karan
you absolutely can't miss!
