The 1999 hijack of an Indian flight in Kandahar is in the news
again. This time, for a different cause. Film maker Major Ravi is geared
up to bring this story onto the big screen.
In his opinion the cast best suited to the project includes
Mohanlal, a famous actor in Kerala, in the role of Major Mahadevan.
Another massive boost to the cast comes in the form of
Amitabh Bachchan,
who is expected to play an important character himself. Ravi is
thrilled at being able to direct such two great professionals under one
frame.
On his blog, Amitabh has shared his excitement at the prospect of
sharing screen space with a great exponent as Mohanlal. So much, Big B
has claimed, that he would go as far as doing the film for no monetary
gain, at the simple prospect of co starring with Mohanlal, who has long
admired. For him, the mere honour of being able to act with Mohanlal is
enough!
The film is to be titled
Kandahar, and its shooting is to
begin sometime in June, with Big B reporting to the sets near the end of
June.
Ravi also gives us certain insights into the movie,
saying that although he is drawing inspiration from the original
incident, the film will be based greatly on his own imagination, as he
can't make a movie on a failed operation. He has also decided to make
the movie bilingual, filming it in Tamil and Malayalam. All the actors
will speak in their own mother tongues, and this will also open slots
for a subsequent Hindi dubbing.
So here's wishing Major Ravi the very best for his inspiring
endeavour. We certainly hope to see more of the big stars sharing screen
space for meaningful cinema! If You are a member of India-forums, Then You can also log in here.
