Summer. A time dedicated to
vacations and family days out, thanks to schools being closed for the
period. However, our forever hardworking Tinsel Town celebrities can
still be seen shooting, even when the rest of the world is in a holiday
mood. So as Summer embraces us once again, BollyCurry takes a quick look
at those celebrities who slapped on some sunscreen and tried to beat
the heat in sunny landscapes.

The romantic melody "Suraj Hua Maddham", from the movie
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,
starring
Shah Rukh Khan and
Kajol, was shot in the vast desert of Cairo, Egypt.
The actors had to shoot the entire sequence in the sun's blazing heat, a
demanding feat, even when their netted clothing was brought into the
equation. Another song to have seen a song tuned to it's sandy dunes is
the soothing "Teri Ore" from the movie
Singh is Kinng. Shot in
Egypt, the song is still loved by one and all, even amidst the
controversies that the song, or specifically Katrina's clothing, had to
face.

When it comes to India, Rajasthan, also referred to as the
Land of the Kings, seems to be the popular hot spot, seeing more busy
schedule than any other land. 1999 saw the movie
Hum Saath-Saath Hain
gracing the location, more specifically during the honeymoon track of
the oldest son and daughter-in-law played by
Mohnish Behl and Tabu,
where the younger generation tags along for the trip through the
beautiful city of Jodhpur. The ancient city was also witness to the song
"Mhare Hiwda Main Naache Mor" which ranged from the scorching desert
sun to the dance in the rain.

Similarly, in the Abhaneri Fort in the small district of Dausa, near Jaipur, the cast of
Bhool Bhulaiyaa
shot for the dance number "Sakiya Re Sakiya", which pictured Amisha
Patel dancing around the beautiful Fort. The sun at it's eye-blinding
peak, highlighted the historic nooks and cranks of the Fort, lending us a
glimpse of what was once a grand and majestic era.

The historical movie
Jodhaa Akbar,
starring
Hrithik Roshan and
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, was shot in Jaipur and
Rajasthan as well. The heat was evident in the entrance scene of Hrithik
riding on the elephant as the actor was covered in slime. While
Aishwarya had more indoor scenes, she was still seen outside in the song
"Jashn-E-Bahaara" which started with her freeing parrots out in the
open air. The cinematography of
Jodhaa Akbar was appreciated by one and all, leaving Ashutosh Gowariker on cloud nine for several weeks after it's release.

Shot in the deserts of Bikaner and Ganjer was the movie
Drona,
starring
Abhishek Bachchan and
Priyanka Chopra. The stills from the
movie saw Bachchan Jr grabbing onto a fistful of sand in pure agony. It
is said the desert had to be smoothed out each time before the shoot
could begin so that the sand didn't look too rough in the masterpiece.

Shooting for their upcoming movies are the stars
Sushant Singh Rajput and
Parineeti Chopra for
Shudh Desi Romance, shot in Jaipur, as well as
Sharman Joshi and
Soha Ali Khan for
War Chod Na Yaar,
shot in Bikaner. While Sushant and Parineeti lucked out with the rains
in Jaipur, Sharman and Soha had to tolerate the heat by indulging in a
bit of friendly cricket.
All is well that ends well. To
complete the movie on time, stars have have no choice but to endure the
torrid weather and shoot under the torturous sun, believing the end
result is worth all the pain. It is tough and uncomfortable but when the films walk away with accolades, who's to complain? Here's hoping that Shudh Desi Romance
and War Chodd Na Yaar
receives the same success as the previous mentioned movies.
