'There is no sense is just sitting at home and mopping' Rituparna

Serious actress Rituparna Sengupta is looking forward to her next film Sirf opposite Parveen Dabaas. This highly talented and beautiful Bong actress has already made her name for herself with films like Main Meri Patni Aur Woh, Unns, and Gauri - The Unborn.

Besides offbeat movies, Rituparna wants to make a splash with commercial bollwood flicks as well. Few people know that she is a well established Bengali film actor, who has dabbled in production as well. Here are excerpts of a chit chat with her.

What are your forthcoming projects?
I am eagerly awaiting the release of Sirf on 4th April. This film, which also star's Parveen Dabaas, Manisha Koirala and others is a beautiful story on life, career and relationships. I play a small town girl who gets married to Parveen and comes to Mumbai. How my character faces troubles and comes out with a positive attitude is something which you should watch out for! Next is Karan Razdan's Mittal vs Mittal. This woman oriented theme deals with marital rape. Rohit Roy plays my abusive husband, while Suchitra Krishnamoorthy and Gulshan Grower essay the roles of our respective lawyers. This film is very important in the sense that it addresses a problem which many married woman silently endure. We have also tried to make woman aware of the laws which the government has enacted to protect
them. But the film is not very technical and many people will be able to identify with my character who refuses to accept this crime silently.

You are also doing a film on surrogate motherhood?
Yes, I am doing Dil Ka Arman along with Divya Dutta and Yashpal Sharma. I play a successful corporate girl, who hires Divya to act as the surrogate mother for her child, as she does not have time for pregnancy. But later as Divvya goes through the process of pregnancy, I start feeling left out and then end up in despair for loosing this wonderful experience of child bearing.

You seem to be doing only off beat movies?
I would love to do out and out commercial stuff as well But till I get such an opportunity I would continue to do performance roles with good directors and actors (Anupam Kher in Gauri - The Unborn and Atul Kulkarni in Uns). There is no sense in just sitting at home and mopping.

But would you be comfortable with the typical jhatka matka roles. ?
I am a very good dancer so would love to do a song and dance routine. I always like to do something which makes me happy.

What about wearing skimpy outfits?
I have no problems as long as I appear sensuous. I will not do something which makes me look tacky and vulgar.

Since you are an established Bengali film actress, how do you compare both the film industries?
Although Kolkata films are pretty up there, yet we do Rituparna Sengupta suffer from regional limitations. Bollywood gives you national and international exposure. Of late Mumbai film industry has undergone massive changes, with new upcoming directors ready to experiment with different kinds of films and looks. I will always keep doing Bangla films but need to create a name for myself in Bollywood as actress, who can do all kinds of roles and not just a particular genre.

You are an established model as well, so what kind of clothes do you personally dig?
I am most comfortable in jeans and white t -shirt. Longish skirts are also pretty high on my wish list. I love to party in sexy red, and blue sarees with halter neck blouses. Among the current crop of designer's, I pick up Sabyachi Murkherjee, Rohit Bal and Ritu Kumar's creations. You always need to have your own style and personality. Good designers can accentuate your looks.

Which bollywood star would you die to act with?
I would give an arm and leg to share screen space with Aamir and Shahrukh Khan. But yes Hrithik Roshan is the best looking bollywood stud around.
