Last week, we wrote a CITS: Fragrance Of Yesteryears based on our legendary actors. This week for Celeb In The Spotlight, we're back to our present actors with the Barbie Doll of Bollywood, Katrina Kaif!

Kaif was born on July 16, 1984 [27 years old] to an Indian Kashmiri father Mohammad Kaif, and an English mother, Susanna Turcotte who were both British citizens.
However, the gal's parents separated when she was a child. Although it is assumed that Kaif is from London,  the claim isn't exactly true since she only lived there for about 3 years before moving to Mumbai.

Katrina, like many others, started her career in the glamorous world of modeling. Her first modeling assignment was at the age of 13, a jewelery campaign. After that, she continued to model in London under a contract from Models 1 Agency. She modeled for La Senza, and Arcadius and was also given the opportunity to walk the ramp for London Fashion Week.

During the modeling stage of her life, London based filmmaker Kaizad Gustad discovered her and gave her the chance to act in his film Boom [2003]. However, the Amitabh Bachchan and Gulshan Grover starrer failed miserably at the box office.

Then she moved to Mumbai where she was offered many modeling assignments but film makers remained hesitant to cast her in a film due to her poor Hindi.

Finally, in 2005 the British actress was offered a cameo role in Sarkar as Abhishek Bachchan's girlfriend.
2005 also was when she played her first major role, David Dhawan's Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, an adaptation of Cactus Flower. The film's cast consisted of Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Arshad Warsi and many others.

Unfortunately for her, the film was only a moderate success. With 2006, came the box office flop Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, her first with Akshay Kumar.

In 2007, Katrina delivered her very first commercial success opposite Akki once again. The romantic comedy Namaste London earned Kaif lots of praise for her work. Next, she featured in the Deol father-son[s] movie Apne, which was also a box office hit.

After that, Kaif's list of successful movies is endless. Movies such as Partner, Race, Singh is Kinng, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Rajneeti  and New York are among the list.

Her latest release was of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara that released on July 15, 2011. The film featured Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Kalki Koechlin and was declared a Box Office hit.

As of this year, the gal is believed to be single and not so sure if she is ready to mingle!

Did you know...
  • The gal's voice has been dubbed for all her films before New York [with the exception of De Dana Dann]
  • She has 7 siblings; 1 brother and 6 sisters
  • She first lived in Hong Kong, then China, Japan and at 8, France. After that, she lived in Switzerland, Krakow, Berlin, Belgium and other East European countries for a few months. From there, she lived in Hawaii with her family and eventually, moved to the UK, her mother's home country.
Don't miss her next, Mere Brother Ki Dulhann alongside Imran Khan and Ali Zafar!
