Chennai to host Ability Fest 2013

The fifth International Disability Film Festival - Ability Fest 2013 will take place here between Sep 23-26. Select films from around the world by and about people with disabilities will be screened as part of the festival.

The festival will take place as Satyam cinemas.

"The response to the fest over the years has been phenomenal. It has helped people to experience some of the best films around the world on disability. This year we have a palette of interesting films lined up for audiences from all walks of life," said Jayashree, founder, Ability Foundations, organizers of the event.

"We have chosen best films on disability from different languages across the world. We believe this festival can influence people and create awareness. We are anticipating participation in large number this year too," she added.

Eight films will be screened across four days as part of the festival.

The festival will begin Sep 23 with the screening of Telugu drama "Minugurulu" by debutant filmmaker Ayodhya Kumar.

On Sep 24, Malayalam drama "Beautiful", a story about a paraplegic person's encounters in life, followed by English films "Indelible", about people with Down syndrome and "Fly Away", a film on autism, will be screened.

The following day will witness the screening of Tamil drama "Haridas", a story about how a father copes with his autistic son and French film "I'm Deaf and I Didn't Know It".

On the last day of fest, Iranian dram "Alzheimer" will be screened followed by French blockbuster "Intouchables", a story about the relationship between a quadriplegic and his help.

The entry for the fest is free and on first-come-first-served basis.
