2011 is going to be the year of sequels in tinsel town
with five
blockbusters that are getting ready to hit the silver screen with
'Race
2', 'Dhoom 3', 'Wanted 2', 'Partner 2' and
'Don 2'.
'Race 2' is to be directed by Abbas-Mustan, like the 2008 original 'Race', under the production banner of Tips Films. The original blockbuster had entertained audiences with a mix of many plots in one, like sibling rivalry, betrayal and passion. It starred Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif as the leads. For the sequel, we will be seeing a major overhaul of the cast. If sources are to be believed, beautiful Bipasha Basu will be replaced by Kareena Kapoor as Saif Ali Khan's love interest. Katrina Kaif won't be part of this project either; instead, Priyanka and Deepika will step into the shoes. However, none of the cast replacements are official at the moment.
The other sequel in work is 'Partner 2'. While
the Govinda - Salman and Lara Dutta original was released in 2007 the
sequel which was expected to release this year has been delayed in its
shoot schedules and postponed accordingly to 2011. The cast, here too,
will witness a revamp. Buzzers report that Deepika Padukone shall play
the beautiful love interest replacing Lara Dutta in this one.
After the super success of 'Wanted' among
fans over the spread of the globe, producer
Boney Kapoor has plans for a follow up. The film, Boney says could
be titled 'Most Wanted' and will repeat Salman Khan as Radhe. 'Wanted',
the original was a remake of Telugu film 'Pokiri', and was
directed by southern dancing star
Prabhu Deva, co starring Ayesha Takia. Opposite Salman, in the sequel,
the female lead is yet to be decided upon and revealed.
Buzz for the third installment of the 'Dhoom'
series gets better and better. A certain Mr. Khan is rumored to being
offered the good guy role in 'Dhoom 3'. More than many knew that SRK was offered to play the
antagonist, but he is not the only Khan
whom Aditya Chopra wants to feature in this movie. He now wants Mr.
Perfectionist Aamir Khan as the good cop - does that mean
one knocked for the other, or both top guns in the same holster, we
shall wait and watch!
Later in the year 'Don 2' will be released,
around Diwali is what is expected as of now. It is '2' not '3'
cause the second of the two Don movies from before was not a
sequel to the first. This one, will follow up Farhan Akhtar's ingenious
remake of the 1978 blockbuster 'Don' in 2006. Don 2
will repeat Priyanka Chopra opposite SRK. The shooting is
expected to start now in April. Farhan is presently busy writing the
script as the audiences have high expectations of it. The story of Don
2 will take off from where Don ended. We shall wait and see
if the famous 'gyarah mulkon ki police' can finally catch up with
the infamous 'Don, jisko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai' !
Going by the list, it is apparent that the trend of
sequels are here to stay and rule - so the next time you're in love with
a movie, don't think it is far fetched to imagine a continuation!
