With a masters in computers and electronics and a passion
for filmmaking, Vizag-born, 26 year old Nagendra Karri's first movie was
screened in the 62nd Cannes Film Festival. His debutant film, "Where
are you Sophia" received great response from the Cannes audience and is set to ablaze the
Indian screens this September.

Hence, Nagendra Karri is here in India to promote the film, and he
is talking about his next movie too…"Mobster". This movie is going to be about
the organized crime and will move between 3 countries… the US, India
and Russia.
This ambitious project is slated to cost a whooping 30 million USD or Rs. 150
crore and the ambitions don't stop there. Nagendra desires to cast Johnny Depp,
Leonardo DiCaprio and Russel Crowe and Eva Green for the international version
of the movie. For the Indian version he wants Aamir Khan, Kamal Hassan,
Abhishek Bachchan and Rahul Bose. "I also plan to cast a few (other) Bollywood
actors like Neil Nitin Mukesh as an Indian-American, Irrfan Khan for a
Palestinian's role, and Tanushree Dutta." was his excited statement.
So, what is this "Mobster" really? "Mobster is
about organisational crime and its domino effect on the people. The story
revolves around an ex-CIA whose life gets affected by it and how he changes the
order of the mob. The story begins in New York
and then travels India to
end in Moscow"
the ever smiling India-Hollywood filmmaker said. The movie is set to go on the
floor in September and will be shot in many locations.
Sounds fun, isn't it?
He sure does sound like fun and a dreamer too. "I thought, once
you get comfortable in life, you stop growing. It was my mom's dream that I
complete my education, and now it is my dream that I do filmmaking." He's all
set to fulfill his dream a second time. As his first film is already doing
great in the international market and is about to be released in India too,
Karri is not ready to settle down with just one. "My goal is to showcase India to the
International film industry by creating movies that has a universal appeal with
an Indian touch." Karri said.
What do you think
about Nagendra Karri and his movie ambitions? Inspiring?
