Mumbai, Feb 23 (IANS) 'Slumdog Millionaire' that won eight Academy Awards has been made tax-free in Maharashtra, an official said Monday evening.
The movie, in which a number of Mumbai children, majority of them from slums, play different roles, swept the 81st Oscar ceremony with eight honours, including two for music director A.R. Rahman.
Another popular Mumbaikar, Gulzar also bagged the Oscar along with Rahman. The movie also bagged awards for Best Film and Best Director, among others.
The state government's move came after a similar announcement by the Delhi government making the movie tax-free.
