It does not pay to be Shilpa Shetty. The actor felt harassed, humiliated and harrowed by yet another bitter and embarrassing experience at the Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, on Wednesday.
Shilpa was on her way to Germany for her West End musical, 'Miss
BollywShilpa Shetty" src="http://www.india-forums.com/bollywood/images/uploads/shilpa_1.jpg" align="right" border="" hspace="5" vspace="5">ood', that premieres in Berlin this weekend. Her troupe included
fifty dancers and technicians. Her departure was at 2.15 am, and
everything was fine, till she met Inspector P Deshmukh at the
Immigration Department. Apparently, Deshmukh told her that she cannot
travel out of the country, because there is no clearance order from the
Supreme Court.
For those who came in late, Richard Gere's innocent peck on Shilpa's
cheek had affected people enough to move against them in court. A court
in the Alawar district of Rajasthan had even issued a 'look out' notice
for the actor at various airports. However, the Supreme Court rubbished
these accusations, and she is now allowed to travel wherever she wants.
Shilpa's spokeperson, Dale Bhagwagar, says, " "It's not Shilpa's fault
that Richard Gere planted pecks on her cheek. It's not her fault that
some airport personnel are unprofessional. It's not her fault that
their computers do not reflect the clearance from the court. It's not
her fault that she is a celebrity. Why should she pay a price for
that?" Bhagwagar also added that Shilpa has to go through this every
time she travels abroad, and concluded, "It happens only in India."
Is Shilpa planning any action on the immigration authorities for the
offensive behaviour? "Yes, she was keen to consult her lawyers in the
matter," Bhagwagar said.
