The year 2017 seems to have begun on a bitter note for the producers of Nawazuddin Siddique starrer 'Haramkhor'. The film recently got a green signal after fighting a court battle for almost eight months and now it has landed in another mess.
As per a report in a popular tabloid, the producer, Guneet Monga and the cast of the film have received threat calls from unknown people who are protesting against the film's story.
The film revolves around a relationship between a 14-year-old girl played by Shweta Tripathi and her tuition teacher played by Nawaz.
The group has alleged that the film's story is polluting the culture of the country with such a story as well as the vulgar title. Thus, they have been consistently sending hate messages.
Guneet was quoted in the report stating that, "They have been sending messages, questioning why are we making 'provocative movies' and 'movies that aren't keeping with the morals of the society'. I have got a number of mails, texts and messages on social media and it's alarming". (sic)
The film was recently awarded certification by Appellate Tribunal after the makers challenged the CBFC's (Central Bureau of Film Certification) decision from providing it with a certification.
Though the makers are receiving endless threat calls and messages they have decided to wait for a while before jumping to any action. "Even during the row with CBFC, we never went around talking about it. We fought the case for nearly eight months. We don't want to attract negative attention. We are thrilled that the film is releasing in 12 days. People are shallow and will remain so. There's a little we can do about it. Discussing the negativity will only take away from the essence of the film", the producer added further. (sic)
Talking about the film Guneet asserts that, "We haven't asked for extra security either. When we named the film 'Haramkhor', we did so as it was cute and juvenile. It is a delicate story told from the perspective of three kids. It is not a sensational story, but a slice-of-life movie. We want people to watch the film and decide for themselves", he added further. (sic)
