Vidya Balan feels thrilled when girls and women wear saree!

Powerhouse performer Vidya Balan, who has always expressed her love for sarees and traditional handlooms, was one of the first actresses to sport creations from various designers.

While materials like Georgette, Chiffon and net were always the most popular choice for actresses when it came to sarees, Vidya Balan, broke the rules and sported fabrics like cotton, linen, raw silk and khadi at a time where no one did.

The actress also endorsed break through designs with traditional fabrics as she proudly sported creations by unconventional designers, who are now the flavor of the season.

Says a source, "While Kirron Kher has been wearing Gaurang for a long time, Vidya was the first young actress  to sport Gaurang's sarees and now they are often spotted on Kangana Ranaut, Sonam Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit Nene among others.

Anavila's sarees too are now extremely popular with Neha Dhupia, Kalki Koechlin, Kajol and Kiran Rao. Vidya has set a trend when it comes to sporting unconventional sarees with fabrics and materials that were initially never looked upon as typically glamorous".

Says Vidya,"I veer towards hand woven fabrics and I wear clothes that I love..When girls and women tell me they have begun to wear sarees more often thanks to me, I feel thrilled. I hope people take to handlooms similarly ".
