IndianRoots to promote Bihar's artisans

Patna, Aug 28 (IANS) In a bid to provide a worldwide platform to the artisan of Bihar, IndianRoots.com, an online market place for Indian fashion, has joined hands with the state government to become the online partner of Upendra Maharathi Shilp Sansthan (UMSAS).

The UMSAS, set up by the Bihar government's Department of Industries, aims to preserve, research and promote the various forms of the state's handicrafts. The institute currently employs 35,000 artisans, working on various crafts, apparel, handicrafts and paintings.

The association is for a duration of five years, of which the first three are exclusive with IndianRoots.

Since last one month, the e-portal has tied up with Banka Silk from Bihar and Craftroots from Gujarat and now furthers this vision of promoting Indian craftsmen by partnering with UMSAS.

"IndianRoots, now a two-year-old company, not only hosts India's best designers on our platform, but also works earnestly towards on-boarding organisations that work toward improving the welfare of artisans in India," Rahul Narvekar, CEO, NDTV Ethnic Retail (IndianRoots), said in a statement.

"Our Indian communities residing abroad are constantly on the lookout for authentic Indian products sourced from various regions of India, and IndianRoots becomes their preferred destination for discovering and acquiring such products," he added.

Ashok Sinha, director, UMSAS, said: "Thirty five thousand craftsmen in our Institute need a credible platform to showcase their products to Indians and NRIs. An institute like ours has a fixed customer base and with the support of credible platforms like IndianRoots, our artisans will get an unprecedented chance to showcase their products to a wider audience."
