Carnatic singer Sudha Raghuraman's and indie pop band Advaita's duet performance was applauded by music enthusiasts here at the Vriddhi: Evolution Music Festival.

Organised by the Kuchipudi Dance Academy Saturday, it took them a while to set the mood, but it was not long before the young crowd cheered the eight-piece band and Raghuraman's musical jugalbandi.

The performance started with jamming between tabla maestro Vishal Nagar and jazz pianist Terry McCaw.

Raghuraman, accompanied by husband G.Raghuraman on flute, showed how wonderful Indian classical music can be presented with western instruments like drums and guitars.

"The idea behind bridging the gap between contemporary sounds and classical strains was to re-establish roots to the Indian culture and art forms. Even if only through unique methods, it worked best today," Vedabrata Rao, event organiser, told IANS.

Abhishek Mathur (guitar), Aman Singh (drums), Anindo Bose(keyboard), Chayan Adhikari(western vocals), Gaurav Chintamani (bass), Mohit Lal (tabla), Suhail Yusuf Khan (sarangi), Ujwal Nagar (Hindustani vocals) comprise the group Advaita.
