Chennai, Feb 29 (IANS) Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, who was close to late Tamil writer Sujatha, says the author considered writing 'a continuing love affair'.

Born in 1935 as S. Rangarajan, the prolific writer adopted the nom de plume Sujatha when he began writing fiction. He passed away Wednesday after suffering from a renal disorder.

Talking of Sujatha's science books, Kamal Haasan said: 'Coming from a background of science, he considered writing not a profession but a continuing love affair.'

Sujatha authored over 100 books, penned popular columns in Ananda Vikatan and Kanaiyazhi magazines. He also wrote screenplays for the films 'Uyire' and 'Pirivom Sandhippom'.

'He (Sujatha) was one of the important writers to enhance my appreciation of literature, of Tamil writing,' the actor said.

He added: 'Usually, writers consider a compromise degrading and a defeat. But he thought a compromise was a necessity, a social duty.'
