Thiruvananthapuram, July 29 (IANS) Filmmaker Priyadarshan, the new chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, said Friday the state will have a modern technical film institute within four months.

The filmmaker told reporters here that the institute will only be looking into the technical aspect of filmmaking and would not teach acting.

'With filmmaking becoming technology driven, we should have an institute that would churn out technical professionals. We are speaking to TV channels as they also require technically sound professionals,' he said.

Early this month, Priyadarshan was appointed chairman of the academy, which promotes films and conducts film festivals.

'It is too early to say what would be my inputs for the academy,' he said.

He expressed confidence that with K.B. Ganesh Kumar as the minister in charge of cinema, the Kerala government would help rejuvenate the Malayalam film industry.

'In Bengal the industry failed to come up because there was hardly any support from the government. In states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the film industry is doing well because of governments support.

'We are confident we will be able to get the attention of the Kerala government. If that happens, it would be really good for the film industry here,' said Priyadarshan.
