Mimoh is a better dancer than me: Mithun Chakraborty

Mumbai, Dec 18 (IANS) At 62, Bollywood's original disco king Mithun Chakraborty, who can still give tough competition to many with his pelvic thrusts, says his actor son Mimoh's moves are incomparable.

'My son is a better dancer than me. He has gradually become better than me and I'm very glad,' Mithun told IANS.

The yesteryear star, who is set to be the grand master on the second season of Zee TV's 'Lux Dance India Dance', says the audience will get a real taste of the father-son duo's dancing skills in a Hindi film titled 'Spaghetti 24/7'.

'You will be seeing me dancing with Mimoh for the first time in 'Spaghetti 24/7',' he said, adding that his younger son Rimoh has been appointed as the assistant director for the project.

The film's shooting has already begun in Kolkata and it is being directed by Gaurav Pandey, said Mithun on the sidelines of the launch of 'Lux Dance India Dance' here Wednesday night.

The three time National award winning actor has given quite a few hits like 'Surakshaa' (1979), 'Disco Dancer' (1982), 'Dance Dance' (1987) and 'Agneepath' (1990) in his three decade long career.

The show has three mentors - popular choreographers Terrence Lewis, Remo D'Souza and Geeta Kapoor - who will be training and guiding the choreographers. Actors Jay Bhanushali and Saumya Tandon will be hosting the show.

But Mithun will take a final call on the fate of the contestants. He says it's a tough job to be a grand master.

'With such shows, you either make or break someone's future. At times we don't understand who to take forward or who to eliminate. We have to keep a lot of things in mind before announcing a decision. And then dealing with the emotional trauma that the contestants undergo is much tougher,' he said.

Mithun is, however, extremely excited about the new season of the show, starting Friday.

'Dance India Dance' is not just a reality show. I would rather call it a talent hunt show. This season is going to be bigger and better with new contestants and new dance styles. We travelled to 18 cities in India and even went to the US, UK and Dubai in search of 18 extremely talented people,' he said.

Mithun says he can still shake a leg in any dancing style unlike the youth who might find his typical moves difficult to copy.

'When I brought in a dance form (disco) to India, it was very tough for people to follow it. I remember, even some choreographers took time to get used to it. I think today's generation will find it difficult to copy my style, but if I follow their styles, I won't find it difficult because I have already crossed that journey in my career,' he explained.

So will we see Mithun dancing on the show?

'I did dance a little on the finale of the previous season. So this time, who knows? The show is not at all scripted so there is every possibility that I may or may not dance,' he said.

Apart from 'Lux Dance India Dance', the actor is keeping busy with various film projects including Salman Khan's 'Veer'. However, he refused to talk about it.
