He has started watching all the videos of Srikkanth from Worldcup '83 videos which will help him to pick up the nuances of batting correctly like Krishnamachari Srikkanth.
The producer of the film, Madhu Mantena shared his views on casting his favourite actor Jiiva for this special role. He says, "I have been a huge fan of Jiiva since the time I saw one of my "favourite films with him called KO ... have always wanted to remake it here in Hindi ... it's awesome that finally, I am getting a chance to work with him .. I can't think of anyone better to be able to do justice in playing Srikanth on the big screen"
Excerpts from Jiiva's interview:
How were you approached for the role?
Jiiva: It was a surreal moment when I was first approached for this film. Since the mega announcement of the film, I was myself looking forward and excited about the story of the 83 squad being made into a feature film.
A few months after I was approached by the Vishnu Induri asking me if I would be interested to reprise the role of K Srikanth, I was surprised and overwhelmed to bag an iconic role like this which will also mark my debut in Bollywood.
Are you interested in cricket in real life? Where have you played?
Jiiva: Of course, I have always been an avid follower of cricket since childhood. I have grown up playing cricket with my gang of friends and also played for the CCL for the Chennai team.
How are you prepping for the role or when do you start prep and your research on K Srikanth?
Jiiva: I have already started prepping for the role. Intense body workouts coupled with cardio exercises are a part of the regime. The main challenge will be to reprise K Srikanth sir on the big screen. Getting his nuances and body language correct. I have started watching his videos online and of course the 1983 match videos.
